A journey into the heart of the city is the outline of Atmospherics 1: Urbania. Night and the city, the journey begins as the sun sets as “The Underground” begins. A cold analog-synth driven tack that roars like the sounds of the underground careening through the tunnels it travels through. Sounds reminiscent of the raw synths of the early 80’s.
A narrative created solely with music was the objective with Atmospherics 1: Urbania.
The journey begins in The Underground heading into the city. Cold stark analog synths over propulsive rhythms carry the listener and drive the beginning of the album.
The mood shifts with Betryal, a melodic track that exemplifies the title with a climatic center that almost completely comes unraveled, before pulling back to the tight introduction for the outro of the some.
Moving further into the journey we have arrived at The Heart of the City, a somber downtempo song that has an overriding ethereal quality as the song dissolves into the sounds of the city as night falls.
Emerging from the heart of the city, the next stop is Uptown. Behind the grimy neon, well-worn bar tops and faded glamour lie dark shadows, shadowy people and the ever present potential for violence or bad decisions or a wrong step.
Amidst the darkness and grime there’s also the neon, glitter and fun which can be found in Neon City, a musical summation of any number of clubs and bars that proliferated in the 80’s, with some carrying on into the present.
What else would follow a night of clubbing, but Happy Hour (Swoon), a euphoric dance track that accompanies a night of too much drink (or…) and the new friends one encounters on such treks.
The coda to a night of exploration and abandon is After Hours (Slink). As the evening winds down, but is far from over a different vibe takes hold. No one quite ready to call it a night, but a knowing sense what had come previously is about to evaporate as the night fades into day.
